MTGTactical publishes practical Magic: The Gathering strategy for players who know the basics and want to make stronger decisions during games. Our coverage focuses on sequencing, combat, interaction, threat assessment, mulligans, resource use and multiplayer decision-making, with particular relevance to Commander.
Our goal is not to pretend every board state has one correct answer. We explain what information matters, which tradeoffs a line creates and how the best practical choice can change with the format, matchup, board state and known cards.
How we select and verify sources
Rules claims are grounded in the current Magic Comprehensive Rules and official card text, including Gatherer and other official Oracle text. When an article discusses tournament procedure, format legality or banned cards, we consult the relevant official tournament policy and current format legality or banned-list information. We verify Oracle text and card interactions before relying on named examples.
High-quality strategic analysis and community discussion can help identify useful heuristics, recurring problems and alternative lines. Those sources inform strategy; they do not override official rules. When a source’s identity matters to understanding a claim, we attribute it clearly and directly.
Rules, strategy and editorial judgment
We distinguish rules—what the game permits or requires—from strategy, which evaluates likely outcomes under incomplete information. Strategic recommendations are reasoned editorial judgments based on factors such as available mana, card economy, tempo, hidden information, opponents’ incentives and the player’s game plan.
Examples may be simplified to illustrate a decision. Research-based analysis and illustrative scenarios are not presented as documented firsthand testing. Specific claims about purchases, playtests, measured results, credentials or personal experience appear only when that experience is documented.
Commercial transparency
If documented sponsorships, affiliate arrangements, ownership interests or other commercial relationships affect particular content, we disclose them on that content. A relationship does not replace the practical reasoning behind a recommendation.
Corrections and updates
Magic rules, card text and format policies can change. We update material errors when they are identified and may revise older articles when official information changes. Readers can also use our approach to review a suspected misplay from the information available at the time.
To report a possible error, email contact@mtgtactical.com with the article URL, the disputed passage and supporting evidence. Clear references to official rules, Oracle text or current policy help us evaluate corrections efficiently.
